Microsoft to make Russia’s Yandex default search engine on Windows 10

Microsoft has made Russia’s Yandex the main search engine for its Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer browsers on devices running on the Windows 10 operating system, the U.S. technology giant said in a statement.

The companies have agreed that Yandex will be the home page and default search engine for Windows 10 users in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Turkey.

On Windows 10 devices, Microsoft will offer the experience of working with a browser and search with the Yandex search service that is familiar to users in these countries, the company said.

Yandex, in turn, will create a special page on which it will tell users about the benefits of Windows 10 and demonstrate its capabilities, as well as recommend that users download and install Windows 10.

Yandex will also have to release various Windows apps: for searching information, positioning and navigation, listening to music, ordering taxis, cards and searching for goods.
